The Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs’ (OES) Office of Environmental Quality (ENV) at the U.S. Department of State (DOS), announces this Notice of Funding Opportunity (“NOFO”) for the project “Air Quality Management Community of Practice in West Africa”.
This project will support the Regional Framework Agreements (RFAs) on Air Pollution in Africa, with a specific focus on West Africa. The 2009 West and Central Africa RFA (Abidjan Agreement) aims to develop concrete steps to address air pollution from key sectors in the region. Progress under this RFA would align with other RFAs across the continent, including for East Africa (2008 Nairobi Agreement) and for Southern Africa (2008 Lusaka Agreement). The project funded through this award will build on the foundation of the West Africa RFA by building a regional community of practice to convene air quality experts, decision-makers, community groups, the private sector, and other air quality practitioners and stakeholders. The community will create knowledge and develop best practices to: (i) improve air quality monitoring, modeling, forecasting, and data management; (ii) expand awareness and understanding of air quality issues; and (iii) develop and implement air quality management frameworks and clean air solutions across scales.
Countries that may be eligible for funding under this award include the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) member states: Benin, Burkina Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
Organizations may only submit one application per organization. If more than one application is submitted by an organization, only the first application received will be reviewed for eligibility and funding.
