Amazon Research Awards (ARA)
The Amazon Research Awards (ARA) program offers awards of up to $80,000 to faculty members at academic institutions in North America and Europe for research in these areas:
- Computer vision
- Knowledge management and data quality
- Machine learning algorithms and theory
- Natural language processing
- Operations research and optimization
- Search and information retrieval
- Security, privacy and abuse prevention
The ARA program funds projects conducted primarily by PhD students or post docs, under the supervision of the faculty member awarded the funds. To encourage collaboration and the sharing of insights, each funded proposal team is assigned an appropriate Amazon research contact. We also invite ARA recipients to speak at Amazon offices worldwide about their work and to meet with our research groups face-to-face, and encourage ARA recipients to publish their research outcome and commit related code to open-source code repositories.
Deadline: Oct. 4, 2019
Full-time faculty members of institutions in North America and Europe granting PhD degrees in the fields related to Machine Learning are eligible to apply as Principal Investigators (PI). Awarded funds will support 1-2 graduate student or post-doc researchers conducting the research under the guidance of this PI.
We prefer that proposals be submitted by a single faculty member, who will also supervise the student or post-doc who is to be funded by the award. Other members of the research team can and should be mentioned in the proposal. We prefer that any individual faculty member submit at most two proposals.
