The DOE SC program in Biological and Environmental Research (BER) hereby announces its interest in receiving applications for research within the Biological Systems Science Division‘s (BSSD) Genomic Science Program (GSP) mission-space. This FOA solicits applications in the following research areas:
a) Microbial biosystems design: Interdisciplinary, fundamental systems biology research to advance the development of new genome-wide design and engineering technologies, innovative modeling, and high-throughput testing approaches for a broad range of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microbes relevant to the production of biofuels and bioproducts from biomass, from synthetic polymers, or as a byproduct of photosynthesis.
b) Plant biosystems design: Integrative, basic research in plant systems biology, genomescale modeling, design, and engineering to advance towards the development of enhanced bioenergy crops, capable of producing biofuels, bioproducts, biomaterials and/or their precursors while growing in marginal environments.
Applications must include strategies to address biocontainment, minimizing risks of potential release of engineered organisms into the environment or other unintended outcomes.
Deadlines:
- Required Pre-Application: Jan. 26, 2022
- Full Application: April 6, 2022
Applicant institutions are limited to no more than one pre-application or application for each PI at the applicant institution. DOE will consider the latest received submissions to be the institution’s intended submissions
Ceiling $5,000,000 per year. Applications requesting more than this amount of support may be declined without further review.
Floor $1,000,000 per year.
DOE anticipates making awards with a project period of five years.
