Center for Philosophy of Religion -- Research Fellowships

For over thirty years, the Center has welcomed researchers from around the world to spend time in residence at Notre Dame. In that period, over 250 scholars working in philosophy, theology, religious studies, other humanities fields, and even the social sciences have pursued cutting edge research using the vast resources of this institution. Residential fellows research, write, discuss works-in-progress, participate in exciting media initiatives, and enjoy vibrant community life while at Notre Dame.

Areas of Interest

For the 2024-2025 academic year we are especially interested in projects that investigate the relationship between religion and democracy; however, proposals that relate indirectly will also be considered.

Adjacent research questions may explore, for example:

  • Theistic political philosophy, or relationships between religion and politics
  • Ethical and historical issues concerning voting and representation, public discourse and freedom of speech, or the role of social media in religious and political conversation and debate
  • Topics at the intersection of the history of religion and politics, philosophy of religion, political philosophy, and feminist philosophy or philosophy of gender
  • Cultural attitudes toward religion and democracy
