Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs -- Prostate Cancer Research Program -- Health Disparity Fellowship Award
The Health Disparity Fellowship Award supports prostate cancer-focused disparity research opportunities for individuals in the early stages of their careers, under the guidance of one or more designated Mentors. This opportunity allows for postdoctoral fellows to develop a research project, investigate a problem or question in prostate cancer disparity research, and further their intellectual development as prostate cancer health disparity researchers of the future. All application components for the Health Disparity Fellowship Award are to be written by the Principal Investigator (PI), with appropriate direction from the Mentor(s).

Areas of Interest
The mission of the FY18 PCRP is to fund research that will lead to the elimination of death from prostate cancer and enhance the well-being of Service members, Veterans, and all men experiencing the impact of the disease. Within this context, the PCRP is interested in supporting research that addresses specific gaps in prostate cancer research and clinical care. Therefore, applications are required to address one or more of the following FY18 PCRP Overarching Challenges:
• Develop treatments that improve outcomes for men with lethal prostate cancer
• Reduce lethal prostate cancer in African Americans, Veterans, and other high-risk populations
• Define the biology of lethal prostate cancer to reduce death
• Improve the quality of life for survivors of prostate cancer
The Postdoctoral PI must: ○ Have successfully defended a doctoral thesis or possess an M.D. degree (or equivalent) by March 31, 2019; ○ Be involved in an accredited postdoctoral training or medical residency program; and ○ Have 3 years or less of postdoctoral research experience (excluding clinical residency or clinical fellowship training) by March 31, 2019.
The anticipated direct costs budgeted for the entire period of performance for an FY18 PCRP Health Disparity Fellowship Award will not exceed $200,000. Refer to Section II.D.5, Funding Restrictions, for detailed funding information.
