David E. Rogers Award

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation David E. Rogers Award honors a medical school faculty member who has made major contributions to improving public health and health care. The award honors the legacy of David E. Rogers, MD, the first president of the foundation and an exemplar of academic medicine’s commitment to meeting the health care needs of the public. Throughout his life, Dr. Rogers was a dynamic influence in stimulating programs in academic medicine, especially in areas of social interest.

The award has been jointly sponsored by the AAMC and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation since 1995. In 2018, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation established the David E. Rogers Award Endowment at the AAMC to support the annual presentation of the award in perpetuity.

The awardee receives the RWJF Rogers Award and a prize of $10,000. Nominations are due Jan. 24, 2025.

Eligibility Requirements

Nominees should have made major contributions to improving public health and health care and will be evaluated by the review committee on the following precise criteria:

  • The nominee has benefited public health and health care.
  • The nominee has shaped public policy to improve health.
  • The nominee has helped redirect the medical profession and/or academic medical centers to experiment with a variety of educational and/or delivery modes to achieve important societal objectives.
  • The nominee demonstrates standards of professional ethics and scientific integrity.

Nominees should demonstrate excellence in all criteria listed above.
