The Dennis W. Jahnigen Career Development Awards Program A Supplemental Grant Program for Recipients of the National Institute on Aging Grants for Early Medical/Surgical Specialists’ Transition to Aging Research (GEMSSTAR)

Funding Agency:
American Geriatrics Society

Dennis W. Jahnigen Career Development Awards are offered by a number of specialty societies, and the AGS serves as a central coordinating body for applicants applying to the NIA’s GEMSSTAR Award. AGS staff also serve as the first point of contact for Jahnigen applicants and can answer any questions you may have about the application process. In addition, staff can help you find geriatrics mentors to assist you in writing your proposal, and we will identify a specialty mentor with geriatrics expertise to provide a pre-application review for your proposal.

The program offers funding for a Professional Development Plan (PDP) to complement the R03 research project funded under the National Institute on Aging’s GEMSSTAR award mechanism. This is a competitive awards program and funding is only provided to those applicants who successfully compete for a GEMSSTAR award. The application due date for the NIA GEMSSTAR R03 is October 2, 2019.
