Crane-Rogers Foundation - Institute of Current World Affairs - Target of Opportunity Fellowships (for Study Outside the USA)
The Crane-Rogers Foundation Institute of Current World Affairs invites applications for Target of Opportunity Fellowships. The primary purpose of the institute is to provide talented individuals an opportunity to develop a deep understanding of an issue, country, or region outside the United States and to share that understanding with interested segments of the English-speaking public. Target of Opportunity Fellowships are offered for the study of issues or areas of the candidate's own choice, or for study in areas of interest expressed by members of the institute. Areas of particular interest to the Institute include Burma, India, Iran, North Africa, Russia, Venezuela, and Southeast Asia, but candidates may seek fellowships in any country.
To be considered, initial letters should be sent to the Institute before Aug. 1, 2013
The official announcement and description of this opportunity may
be found on the funding agency's website:
Social Sciences; International Opportunities; Arts & Humanities; Environmental & Life Sciences.
Fellowships are for self-designed independent study only. Candidates must be under 36 years of age. Fellowships are not scholarships, and are not awarded to support work toward academic degrees or for research projects, or to write books. Applicants must have a good command of written and spoken English. Applicants must also have completed the current phase of their formal education before they apply. Unless specified otherwise, fellowships are open to citizens of all countries.
The Institute provides full financial support for its Fellows and their immediate families, requiring that they write monthly reports or newsletters to the Executive Director. These are circulated to ICWA members, friends of the Fellow and to persons in education, business, government and the professions who are interested in the Fellow or the subject of the Fellow's inquiry.
"Full financial support" does not mean unlimited financial support. The Institute provides a Fellow with sufficient funding to allow the Fellow and his or her family to live in good health and reasonable comfort and to fulfill the purposes of the Fellowship.
