Dominican Republic USAID-Santo Domingo -- Oceans Plastics - Solid Waste Management Program

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking applications for a Cooperative Agreement from qualified entities to implement the Oceans Plastics - Solid Waste Management Activity. Eligibility for this RFA is not restricted.

Marine plastic pollution poses a serious threat to the health of all oceans and seas, with potentially dire consequences to climate, ecosystems, and livelihoods worldwide. An estimated 85 percent of all marine debris is plastic in one form or another . One of the regions that is most 1 vulnerable to the ocean plastic problem is the Caribbean, as its economies depend on tourism and fisheries. Ocean plastics pollution exacerbates the challenges of climate change, threatening livelihoods, destroying ecosystems, and reducing the resilience of millions of people. Caribbean nations generate the largest volume of plastic per capita in the world , leaving more than 320 2 metric tons (MT) of plastic uncollected in the Caribbean each year.

This Activity’s goal is to reduce waste in municipalities leading to cleaner oceans in the Dominican Republic. To achieve clean oceans, USAID will work on the Northern Coast of the Dominican Republic enabling communities and economies to thrive and to build resilience to climate and economic shocks.
