EnVision VenSAR Science Team (ROSES 2021)

EnVision is a mission to Venus being developed under the European Space Agency's (ESA) Cosmic Vision program. NASA is contributing the Venus Synthetic Aperture Radar (VenSAR) to the mission through a project implemented at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL). This element calls for proposals to establish a VenSAR Science Team (VeST) to work with the JPL project and the broader EnVision mission. The VeST will provide scientific feedback into VenSAR development. In addition, a subset of VeST members will be selected to serve on the EnVision Science Study Team and one member of the VeST will be selected as the U.S. EnVision Mission Scientist.

EnVision's highest-level science themes are (in no priority order):

  • History - How have the surface and interior of Venus evolved?
  • Activity - How geologically active is Venus?
  • Climate - How are Venus' atmosphere and climate shaped by geological processes?

This element calls for proposals for team members and a Team Leader for the VenSAR Science Team (VeST) over the period of 2022-2027. A subset of these team members will be specifically identified and supported to serve on the EnVision Science Study Team with one member selected as for an additional leadership role as the U.S. EnVision Mission Scientist.
