Horton (Hydrology) Research Grant for Ph.D. Students

The Horton Research Grant is awarded to up to three Ph.D. students studying hydrology, water resources, or a closely related field each year and is made possible through the generosity of the Robert E. Horton Fund for Hydrologic Research. The purpose of the award is to promote excellence by encouraging the next generation of professionals in the hydrological sciences.

Eligibility Requirements

The applicant must:

  • be an active student member of AGU
  • be enrolled in a doctoral program in hydrology, water resources, or a closely related field such as water resources policy science
  • be enrolled in the program for the duration of the award (one year from AGU's annual meeting where the award is presented)
  • meet all application submission requirements
Amount Description

Recipients receive the following:

  • A research grant not to exceed $10,000 to cover research and travel costs of up to $500 for U.S. and Canadian-based applicants and $1,000 for international applicants. Winners who participate virtually in AGU's annual meeting receive $500 for meeting expenses regardless of their country of residence.
