Human-Animal Interaction (HAI) Research (R01, R03, R21)

This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites grant applications for research to examine 1) the impact of HAI on typical and atypical child development and health; 2) the evaluation of animal-assisted intervention for children and adults with disabilities or in need of rehabilitative services; 3) the effects of animals on public health, including cost effectiveness of involving animals in reducing and preventing disease.  

Although this funding opportunity uses the R01 grant mechanism, it runs in parallel with two program announcements of identical scientific scope: PAR-20-033, for exploratory/developmental (R21) grants, and PAR-20-032 for R03 small grants.

Amount Description

Budgets are limited to $499,999 Direct Costs per year. Application budgets should reflect the actual needs of the proposed project.

The scope of the proposed project should determine the project period. The maximum project period is 5 years.
