The University of New Mexico’s Latin American library holdings are nationally acclaimed, and regularly attract the attention of local, national, and international scholars.
Each year the Latin American and Iberian Institute (LAII) partners with UNM University Libraries to offer Richard E. Greenleaf Visiting Library Scholar awards to support scholars who work with these premier collections.
Recipients of the award work to promote scholarly use of the Latin American and Iberian collections, focusing on objectives with specific relevance to the UNM Library collections. Scholars will have the opportunity to present their research to faculty and students during their visit to UNM and to submit a brief report. The LAII will assist awardees in identifying and networking with UNM scholars in relevant fields.
The deadline for applications is March 31, 2025.
International and independent scholars as well as faculty at all levels (junior, mid, senior) and advanced graduate students at US institutions who specialize in Latin America and Iberia are invited to apply.
Awards will generally be capped at $3,000. However, higher amounts may be considered for longer-term projects depending on funding availability. Scholars planning extended stays that require funding beyond the capped amount are strongly encouraged to seek supplementary support from other sources. The award can be applied to round-trip travel plus local living expenses (lodging, meals, ground transportation and incidentals) capped at $150/day. The minimum stay is two weeks (10 days of research in the library). The proposed research may be conducted any time between June 1, 2025 and July 31, 2026.
