Grants in the Microbiology of the Built Environment program focus on at least one of the following three areas:

• Basic research on microbial populations found in built environments;
• Development of tools and methods for collecting, sorting and identifying microbial populations;
• Practical applications of microbial research to specialized built environments, such as hospitals or health care facilities.
