This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) invites grant applications that use novel approaches for the development of safe, real-time, non-invasive (or minimally invasive), in vivo methods to assess the development and function of the human placenta across pregnancy.

Although this funding opportunity uses the R01 grant mechanism, it runs in parallel with a program announcement of identical scientific scope, RFA-HD-18-004, which uses the exploratory/developmental (R21) grant mechanism.
