The NC Diversity and Equity in Emergency Medicine Scholarship Fund was created by Wake Emergency Physicians, PA and Mid-Atlantic Emergency Medical Associates out of a desire to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in the medical field, specifically in emergency medicine. Scholarships are awarded to second year MD or DO students or first-year Physician Assistant students who identify as underrepresented minorities and are attending school in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, or at Meharry Medical College in TN. Applicants should also either be a resident of North Carolina or intend to practice medicine in North Carolina immediately after completion of their degree program.

In order to be eligible, students must meet the following criteria:
- Students must be in their second year of an MD or DO program or their first year of a PA program.
- Students must be enrolled in programs in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, or at Meharry Medical College.
- Students must self-identify as an underrepresented minority in the medical field based on the UNC System definition*.
- Students must either be a resident of North Carolina or intend to practice medicine in North Carolina immediately after completion of their degree program.
- Students must be in good academic standing.
- Preference for students specializing in emergency medicine.
Up to $10,000
Awards will be $5,000 per year for the number of years remaining in the student’s program (one or two years) and may be used towards any need listed under the school’s total cost of attendance. The student is responsible for all other charges. To receive a second year of funding, students must verify they continue to be in good academic standing and that they will be enrolled for the upcoming academic year.
