The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF), in collaboration with the Intramural Programs of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and National Institute of Aging (NIA), is pleased to issue a Request for Applications (RFA) for collaborative projects to focus on Aging and Cancer. Projects must include collaborations between an extramural investigator and an intramural investigator from the NIA or NCI. Proposals must justify the partnership through synergistic scientific aims. Awards will provide up to $100,000/year to each PI for up to two years.

Teams consisting of one principal Investigator from the NCI- or NIA Intramural Research Program and a non NIH-based investigator may apply for a two-year grant for up to $200,000 ($100,000 per year, which may include up to 10% for overhead for the non-NIH investigator).

The RFA will use a two stage process.  In the first phase a one page, structured letter of intent will be reviewed by a panel from the SWCRF, NCI and NIA.  A select number of applications will be invited to submit a full application. 

Each invited institution may submit one application.

Internal Nomination

To be considered for nomination, the following should be submitted in one PDF to Karen Judge at karen.judge@duke.edu by Friday, April 1, 2022 at 5pm.

The DCI’s Scientific Review Committee will review all internal applications and select their nominations no later than April 7th, 2022.

  • 2 page description of project including the following:

    • Title of proposed project
    • Applicant’s eligibility (see announcement for additional details)
    • Project/Performance Site
  • Budget and budget justification
  • Applicant’s NIH biosketch
