The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) seeks collaborative research by multi-disciplinary teams to address critical issues of neuroscience, genetics, behavior, prevention, treatment, epidemiology, etiology, medications development, health services, HIV/AIDS and co-occurring opportunistic infections (e.g., viral hepatitis C, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections) and associated consequences in people who use or misuse substances or have a substance use disorder, or other research areas relevant to substance use, misuse, or use disorders.

Program projects are expected to be broadly based investigative efforts with a clear, well-defined, and unifying goal or theme to establish the direction and objectives that address critical issues of neuroscience, genetics, behavior, prevention, treatment, epidemiology, etiology, medications development, health services, HIV/AIDS and co-occurring opportunistic infections (e.g., viral hepatitis C, tuberculosis, sexually transmitted infections) and associated consequences in patients with substance use disorder(s), or other research areas relevant to addiction or substance use disorders.
