The purpose of the NIOSH Support for Conferences and Scientific Meetings (U13) is to support high quality scientific meetings, conferences, and workshops that are relevant to NIOSH’s scientific mission and that promote occupational safety and health, NIOSH program priorities, and public health. The conference program is integral to the overall mission of NIOSH. An application should address and advance important areas of research in the field of occupational safety and health of particular interest to NIOSH programs and the National Occupational Research Agenda. A conference or scientific meeting is defined as a gathering, symposium, seminar, workshop or any other organized and formal meeting where persons assemble in person or meet virtually to coordinate, exchange, and disseminate information or to explore or clarify a defined subject, problem, or area of knowledge. This is a U13 cooperative agreement conference grant mechanism to support recipient sponsored and directed meetings, conferences, and workshops. Cooperative agreements are an assistance mechanism used when there will be substantial Federal scientific or programmatic involvement. Substantial involvement means that, before and after award, scientific or program staff will assist, guide, coordinate, or participate in project activities. Applications for training-only events will not be considered under this announcement.
Deadlines:
- Letter of Intent is due 30 days prior to application receipt date.
- U13 Deadlines: Apr. 12, Aug. 12, and Dec.12
PAR-21-193 Expiration Date: December 15, 2025
Applications for both domestic and international conferences may be submitted. Only U.S. based organizations or institutions are eligible to apply. The CDC/NIOSH does not make awards to individuals directly.
When multiple PDs/PIs are proposed, NIOSH requires one PD/PI to be designated as the "Contact" PI, who will be responsible for all communications between the PDs/PIs and the NIOSH, for assembling the application materials outlined below, and for coordinating progress reports. The Contact PD/PI must meet all eligibility requirements for PD/PI status in the same way as other PDs/PIs.
For an individual conference/meeting, the total amount awarded is expected to be up to $30,000 total costs. Applicants may request more than $30,000 in total costs per year with prior approval from NIOSH (see Section IV.2). The maximum amount that can be requested with prior approval is $75,000 in total costs per year. Facilities and administrative (F&A) costs (also called indirect costs) are not authorized. Project periods can range from one to three consecutive years. The actual project period will depend upon the type of application received and approval for funding. For a multi-year proposal, a conference/meeting is expected each year (12-month interval). Therefore, the total amount requested would be the sum of all years of support.
