OREF/RJOS Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Disparities in Orthopaedic Health Care Research Grant

Solicits investigator-initiated clinical research proposals that stimulate clinical research and provide funding for promising studies to find solutions to problems of diversity, equity, inclusion, and disparities in orthopaedics. The inequities are well established. We are seeking research for improving the current culture, practical solutions and improving outcomes. All proposed projects are expected to generate results that have a practical application.

The OREF and the RJOS are seeking funding for collaborative research studies, especially those focusing solutions in the following areas, although other areas of disparity in orthopaedic practice will be considered:

  • Solutions to reduce gender inequities in orthopaedic care.
  • Strategies to reduce gender inequities in orthopaedic research.
  • Solutions to reduce injury differences/diagnoses influenced by gender.
  • Solutions to reduce sex differences in sports injuries.
  • Promotion of diversity in orthopaedic Surgical Training.

Deadlines:

  • Required Letter of Intent: Aug. 12, 2024
  • Application: Oct. 1, 2024
Eligibility Requirements

The principal investigator (PI) must be an orthopaedic surgeon licensed to practice in the U.S. and be working in an institution in the U.S. An MD, DO, DVM or PhD may serve as a co-principal investigator. The PI applicant must have been an RJOS member for at least five years and also a current member in good standing. Membership will be confirmed before the issuance of an award. A Co-PI may be a member of RJOS, but it is not a requirement for eligibility. To be clear, non-members of RJOS and/or RJOS members for fewer than five years who wish to be a PI must partner with a co-PI who has been a RJOS member for at least five years. In the specialty society relevance section, please describe how this research proposal furthers the RJOS’ mission: to promote the professional development of women in orthopaedics throughout all stages of their careers.

Applicants are limited to one submission per individual per year. The same project may not be submitted in multiple grant categories, even if the PI is different. The investigator may receive only one OREF grant of each type during his/her lifetime.
