The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nursing (AMSN) provides three types of grants available for nursing research.

  • MSNCB Certification Research Grant: To support medical-surgical nursing research conducted by beginning and experienced researchers. The topic is specialty certification and its impact on medical-surgical nursing practice and patient outcomes. One (1) $20,000 MSNCB Certification Research Grant may be awarded this year.

  • Cecelia Gatson Grindel Evidence-Based Practice Research Grant: To support medical-surgical nursing investigation to evaluate practice changes that have been developed using an evidence-based practice approach conducted by beginning and experienced researchers. One (1) $5,000-$10.000 Cecelia Gatson Grindel Evidence-Based Practice Research Grant may be awarded each year.

  • Nursing Research Grant: To support medical-surgical nursing research conducted by beginning or advanced researchers. Up to three (3) $5,000-$10,000 Nursing Research Grants may be awarded each year.

Applications are accepted year-round.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicant must be

    • A member of AMSN in good standing (except for the MSNCB Certification Research Grant).
    • The principle investigator who is actively involved in some aspect of care, education, or research for the medical-surgical patient.
  • Preference is given to a project that involves nurses in the design and implementation of the research activity that promote theoretically-based medical-surgical health practice.
