National MPS Society

The National MPS Society funds research that may lead to treatments for MPS diseases and solicits applications for innovative research projects that involve basic research, translational studies and clinical research. Funding can also be requested for a research fellowship. Special consideration will be given to new investigators.

Deadlines

  • Required Letter of Intent (Tier I and II): March 15, July 15, Nov. 15

Areas of Interest

  • Tier I Research Grants

    • Up to a total of $100,000 US distributed over one to two years at the discretion of the PI
    • This award will address complex or multidisciplinary research questions and/or unmet needs in basic, translational, clinical, or diagnostic aspects of the MPS and ML disorders
    • A competitive renewal under this mechanism is possible, but will be offered only once
    • Total funds of an original grant and its renewal will not exceed $200,000
    • Total time of an original grant and its renewal will not exceed 4 years (excluding NCE)
    • Restrictions apply (see below)
  • Tier II Research Grants
    • Up to a total of $50,00 US distributed over one to two years at the discretion of the PI
    • These awards may address any of the following:
      • discrete studies or deliverables involving drug repurposing, models, etc.
      • research needs designed to make possible a significant and new research grant
      • research needs designed to improve a resubmission of a significant research grant
      • analysis of previously compiled data or research resources
      • pre-clinical extension to an alternate syndrome of a previously validated therapy
    • A competitive renewal under this mechanism is possible, but will be offered only once
    • Total funds of an original grant and its renewal will not exceed $100,000
    • Total time of an original grant and its renewal will not exceed 4 years (excluding NCE)

  •  
  • Research/Clinical Scientist Fellow-Initiated Research Grant
    • The Fellow-Initiated application will, in most cases, address a Tier II level question

      • In rare cases the research may approach Tier I level research in scope
    • Awards will be limited to one year at $50,000 (US)
    • The basis of any award decision will rest on rigorous review of the research component
    • A required mentor’s statement must be included which address mentorship in research
    • Eligible for up to one renewal
    • Restrictions apply (see below)

Eligibility Requirements

  • Any domestic US or foreign, public or private, non-profit or for-profit research organization is eligible to apply for and receive a Society Grant.
  • Only one research or fellowship application per independent laboratory group within an institution may be submitted per cycle.
    • Failure to adhere the above application eligibility restrictions or efforts to circumvent them, may permanently restrict future applications from a given principle investigator or institution.
