RFI: Unsustainable and illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in marine environments along the coasts of Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia.

The United States Agency for International Development Regional Environment Program in Peru is gathering information on illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in marine environments along the coasts of Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia and on overall marine fisheries management practices.

USAID is charged with assisting host governments in their Journey to Self Reliance (JtSR). Through this Request for Information, USAID/Peru would like to better understand from all interested parties including the private sector, non-governmental organizations or civil society, the specific development problems that surround IUU fishing affecting Peru, Ecuador and Colombia and current fisheries management practices which impact on this topic.

From a commercial perspective, a number of efforts by major seafood importers and retailers, with the support of international development organizations, seek to make it possible to assure that fish on the market were sustainably harvested. The Seafood Alliance for Legality and Traceability is one example. Approaches range across the production chain, from geospatial technology to consumer education.
