SUMMER MEDICAL STUDENT FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
The Summer Medical Student Fellowship Program is a chance for outstanding medical students to pursue urology research by engaging them in summer research fellowships alongside world-class urologic scientists. Awardees receive $4,000 stipends to support them during a ten-week mentored research experience. These awards are made possible thanks to the generous support of the Herbert Brendler, MD, Research Fund; the Arkansas Urologic Society; the Florida Urological Society; and the Urology Care Foundation, the official foundation of the AUA.
Urologic research is an exciting and dynamic field that requires participation of many talented and dedicated individuals. Recruitment of individuals in the early stages of their careers is essential to ensure the succession of outstanding researchers needed to maintain and advance this vital field. Motivating and meaningful research experiences mentored by urologic research leaders are likely to stimulate the interest needed to accomplish that goal, and could be the catalyst that leads medical students to pursue careers in academic urology. As such, the Urology Care Foundation Summer Medical Student Fellowship Program is designed to meet this critical need.
Current or matriculating medical students are invited to apply for funding to support their exposure to the dynamic field of urology and training in urologic research. Studies conducted through this fellowship may be in basic, translational, clinical or health services research in any area of urology research. The fellowships have a required duration of ten weeks (not less than 50 working days) during the summer of the award year. The exact dates may vary as agreed upon by the institution, applicant, and mentor. Medical students are permitted to apply for a second summer of fellowship training. However, such applications will be considered for funding after all qualified applications for first-time awardees have been funded.
Deadline: Jan. 9, 2020
