Translational and Basic Science Research in Early Lesions (TBEL) (U54 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Funding Agency:
National Institutes of Health

The purpose of this Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) is to solicit applications for the establishment of Research Centers, one of the two units of the Translational and Basic Science Research in Early Lesions (TBEL) program. The aim of the Research Centers is to  integrate basic and translational cancer research studies to iteratively examine the direct causal relationships and interactions of an early lesion, its microenvironment, and host-systemic factors as “co-organizers” of tumor initiation (or suppression) and malignant progression in conjunction with the clinical characteristics of the lesions. The ultimate goals of the TBEL program are to further understand the biological and pathophysiological mechanisms driving or restraining precancers and early cancers and facilitate biology-backed precision prevention approaches. The other unit of TBEL is the Coordinating and Data Management Center (CDMC) (RFA-CA-21-055).
