Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Airspace Integration -- BAA-2014-0006-RQKPC

Funding Agency:
Department of Defense

This is a five (5) year Closed Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) with calls describing the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), Power and Controls Division (AFRL/RQQ)’s interest in unmanned aircraft system (UAS) integration into the airspace. This closed BAA With Calls approach only allows for proposal submittals at a specified date and time through the issuance of a call. As technical topic areas are identified, a call may be issued in the FedBIZOpps/EPS or www.grants.gov to request proposals for specific research efforts. These subsequent calls will contain specific descriptions of the research effort to be addressed, the anticipated period of performance, the information particular to the specific research technical topic area, and the estimated funding profile for the call. This BAA will be reviewed no less frequently than annually and updates will be published in FedBizOpps and grants.gov. Any changes or cancellation of the BAA will be posted as an amendment.

The objective of this effort is to conduct basic, applied, advanced and demonstration/validation research to develop, demonstrate, integrate and transition new airspace integration technologies to the warfighter. Tasks may include the following:

  • Modeling, simulation and analysis of UAS
  • Trade studies and research of UAS systems, subsystems and interfaces
  • Verification, validation and safety analysis
  • Concept and component development, including software and/or hardware
  • Human-machine interface research and development
  • Develop, conduct and/or support ground or flight tests

Calls under this BAA may be efforts in one or multiple research areas. Each individual call will have specific technical requirements, objectives, and deliverables.
