U.S. Mission to Japan -- Green Growth Cooperation

U.S. Embassy Tokyo’s Public Affairs Section announces an open competition for organizations to submit applications to carry out an exchange program that will promote U.S. - Japan green growth cooperation and sustainable economic practices.

The Government of Japan (GOJ) has been stepping up its efforts to reach carbon neutrality. Through its Green Growth Strategy (GGS), tackling climate crisis is no longer seen as a cost, but more as an opportunity to bring about strong economic growth. One of the main pillars of this strategy focuses on international collaboration, with the United States being a main partner in this effort.

This exchange program will connect working level officials and experts from both countries to seek and identify concrete ways to promote sustainable economic and social development. The program could be implemented through a series of in-person, virtual, and hybrid format events, and will require the submission of a final policy paper addressing the outcomes of the program and suggested actions to be taken. Elements of the program may include promoting the development and deployment of clean energy technologies, green innovation, market and infrastructure considerations, and workforce development and its role in supporting large-scale clean energy technology deployment.

Moreover, beyond bilateral cooperation between the United States and Japan, this project will promote joint efforts between the two countries to accelerate clean energy transitions in third countries, including implementation of capacity building and training workshops in those countries, standardization and rulemaking in the international sphere, and building a global roadmap to carbon neutrality and green growth.
